David was born on November 16, 1981, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after graduating high school in 2001. He proudly served two tours in Iraq before receiving an honorable discharge in 2010.
Every day, roughly 20 veterans die by suicide, while over 1,000 dogs are euthanized. Dave’s Dogs for Veterans exists out of a fierce dedication to saving the lives of both veterans and rescue dogs. Backed by scientific research, this program empowers veterans who fought for our freedom to live a life of independence, stability, and purpose.
We bring two lives together—a rescued dog and a veteran in need—and form a life-saving bond. Veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and/or military sexual trauma (MST) deserve healing and support. They fought for our freedom. Now, we fight for theirs.
Our Mission
Our primary focus is to restore and support veterans dealing with service-related trauma by pairing them with a trained K-9 companion, giving both the veteran and the dog a second chance at life. The majority of our K-9s are rescues, now given a new purpose to serve those who have served us.
How It Works
1. Apply – Start by filling out our K-9 Application.
2. Contact – Our Operations Team will reach out to guide you through the process.
3. Evaluation – We conduct multiple interviews, reference checks, and a background investigation to better understand your disability, personality, family, and home environment.
4. Match – Based on this information, we pair you with the best possible K-9 for your needs.
All of this is done at no cost to the veteran.
